Day #16 Holiday Mug Rug Tutorial

I found another cute tutorial to share with you!  These not only would be cute in your own home but such a sweet gift idea also!  Just think for a second, make a mug rug, find a cute coffee mug, toss in a couple pouches of hot cocoa mix, or a small box of flavored tea or even a coffee house gift card! Instant Christmas gift to spread a little Christmas cheer to a friend, loved one, teacher, pastor, postal worker, hairdresser, your favorite cashier at the local grocery store, etc!

Look how cute!  And only uses small amounts of fabric!

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial I found to share with you.  We are just about 1/2 way through my self-induced 31-day blogging challenge. I hope you are enjoying our blog and finding wonderful new things to make and spark your own creativity!

Day #15 Christmas Tree Pillow Pattern Freebie -- The Blogging Challenge Continues!

Look at this cute project!  Love it!

The Moda Bake Shop folks shared this delightful free pattern on the blog not too long ago and I think it's just the cutest, quick project to make up to add a splash of color to any room in your home!

Look at that sparkly fabric!  I love the added glitz to this project.  I was thinking though ---there I go again thinking, it gets me in trouble sometimes..... Anyhow - this could easily be done as a wool applique project also. Use some of the wool fabrics you may have and add some fancy stitching around the edges of the Christmas tree in a stand out color of embroidery floss to add a little bling!
Cute!

Here's the backside view of the pillow.  I love pillows like this because you can easily make a pillow form that will fit this size pillow. Then easily switch out this Christmas themed pillow for maybe a Snowman you could make later on, or an Easter Bunny for Spring, Pumpkins, and Leaves for the Fall Season.  Oh, the ideas are just endless.  Let your mind wander for just a little bit with this.

Be creative. Sit down and enjoy making this pillow. Then pull out a good old pencil and paper and draw out some other shapes and make up a few more pillows to change for the seasons!

Day #14 Hexie Tea Towel Tutorial

Here's a nifty little tutorial to make some clever and cute tea towels to decorate your home for the holidays!

Just be careful and watch clicking around on the links, lots of advertisements on this little tutorial.

Also, she doesn't give you a hexagon shape so here is a link to the Love Patchwork & Quilting Website where they offer you assorted sizes as a free download. Just click on the size you want and download the file and print!

But if you are like many quilters, we have a fascination with hexagons lately and you might have a good template already available for your use!

I like the idea of making these tea towels using some of the great Christmas themed fabrics available to us. Then I started thinking - wouldn't they make cute Snowmen themed towels also to hold us through the holiday decorating season a little longer!

Find some fabrics with cute snowmen and snowflake images and use a white, or blue or even a pretty gray or silvery colored towel!

Day #13 Christmas Gift Bag Pattern and Tutorial Freebie - It's a Cute one!!!

I just love this adorable little bag I found the pattern for over on the Moda Bake Shop Blog!  It's another great pattern to use up small bits of fabric and embroidery floss.  What a cute gift giving idea!

Front of the Bag

Back of the bag.

I hope all of you are enjoying the patterns I've been finding and sharing with you during the holiday season. I've gotten quite lucky so far in finding some very unique and cute ideas for decorating and/or gift giving. As we get closer to Christmas, I'll try to change it up a little and shift into some Snowmen themed ideas to hold us through the winter season after Christmas is over!

Now, on my list today I have the following fun things to do:

3,000 words need to be typed for my book to keep on track for my personal goal - oh and I'll drop a little hint here - yes it's a real book - a fiction book - Nope, not a quilting pattern book this time. When will it be out - I have no clue because I don't even have a publisher!  (Insert me giggling at that last comment!)  Just doing this on my own and once I'm finished, then it's full speed ahead to get it in the right hands. Oh - and another hint - yes it does involve a little bit of quilting here and there thrown in, of course, would you expect any less from me????? I'll tell ya more later but for now  --- Mum's the word, I enjoy the suspense!

I have a lovely stack of fabric that I stamped with the most wonderful quilt stamps that need to be cut out and then will be ready for hand piecing.

I have a pot of soup I want to make for today and the next few days that I've had a taste for. Italian Wedding Ring soup - and it is so good!

Above is a picture of the Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread I made this past weekend as a special treat for my daughter who is now home and on break from college. Visit the link below if you would like a copy of this recipe!

More firewood needs to be brought in for my woodstove and fireplace. I love the warmth and ambiance of a wood burning stove and a fireplace. It truly makes my cabin an even more wonderful place to be on a cold winters day.

Day #12 Snowman Yo-Yo Ornament Tutorial

Look at this cute little guy (or gal) snowman ornament tutorial I came across!  Cuteness!

Super easy, super quick and using just scraps from your scrap bag!  I love it!

See the little noses used for the snowmen in the picture above? In this tutorial, she uses clay - which is awesome, works great.  But I have a quick tip to share from my craft show days.  Buying a chunk of clay might not make sense when you have only a few of these snowmen to make up and finding the orange clay this time of year in certain areas may be challenging. So - go to your local dollar store and buy a package of  either round toothpicks or a package of small diameter wooden food skewers.  Either work great and you can use a simple crafting knife or a utility knife to carefully cut the wooden pieces to the length you need (please be careful!)  Then just paint them! Or if you wanted to be a bit more rustic and still can see the bare earth (for those of us in the snow-covered regions of the USA this might be impossible!) find a few small twigs outside, cut them to length and paint!

Enjoy and happy creating!

Day #11 Charming Christmas Ornaments Freebie Pattern

Grab a charm pack or a mini charm pack - depending on what you want to make and head over to the Moda Bake Shop Blog by following my link I've provided just above!  I'm in love with these ornaments!!!  The patterns are free, the instructions are written really well and the pictures are awesome!

This handprint ornament just about melted my heart.  It brought back many great memories of my children being little ones running around the house anticipating Santa's arrival!

These are cute too!

Think of the many creative ways these ornaments can be adapted to the fabrics you might have on hand!  All different Christmas words can be used, special sayings if use a permanent pen like a Pigma could possibly be written on them! I have ideas popping in my brain of cutting out cute little Christmas Tree shapes, and little snowmen and maybe some reindeer!  Just think - you could probably use cookie cutters if you have them in your kitchen to give you the basic shapes you would need!

Enjoy and go do something creative today!

Day #9 Snowman Ornament Tutorial - Blogging Challenge

Little Snowmen to decorate your Christmas Tree this season!!!! How adorable.  These would be a cute added little gift to hang from your Christmas packages also!

I found this pattern by accident and really enjoyed this little blog, so take a minute and search around and read her blog. She has some cute things! I found several of her quilts I loved also!

It's fun to search around and read different blogs. I've found several new internet friends that way. I've found a lot of great tutorials and learned many clever new tips and tricks!

Today in my neck of the woods it's a relaxing Sunday. I like to keep Sundays to myself and minimize my work if I can or make it a day for family and friends but today, I need some me time. It's a slow stitching Sunday here in by warm cabin. I'll be nestled up on my comfy sofa, drinking my coffee and hand piecing several quilt blocks while enjoying the Hallmark Channel.

I hope you have an awesome and relaxing day also!

Day #8 Christmas and Holiday Challenge and Blog Writing Challenge Too! - Tablerunner Freebie Pattern!

Perfect!!!!

This is perfect for a project to be completed in a weekend. Literally - you could sit down and have one of these completed for your own home decor and probably make another to give as a gift this Christmas season.

The ideas and color patterns are unlimited with this easy to follow pattern that is provided by those wonderful gals over on the Moda Bake Shop Blog. A Jelly roll, 1/2 yard of backing fabric, little bit of batting and a small amount of fabric for the binding and you are on your way.

This is another one of those great things you can make and could be given as a gift this holiday season and it won't break the bank.  Teachers would love this. Your co-worker would be thrilled.  And remember me bringing up a community member that might need his or her spirits perked up a bit - this may do the trick.

It's ok to play Secret Santa and brighten someone else's day every now and then. I am a firm believer that no good deed goes unseen and does come full circle eventually.

I saw a quote months ago on Facebook that has stuck with me and been in my mind ever since I first saw it.  I fell in love with it instantly and I remind myself of it constantly when I go about playing Secret Santa or if maybe I might do something out of the ordinary for another person.  I love this little ditty...

It's ok to do something for another person for no reason at all and expect nothing from them in return and the world doesn't need to know about it.  Not one thing.

Day #7 No-Sew Fabric Angel Ornaments Tutorial

This tutorial is just so sweet. I love angels, especially Christmas Angels. And talk about simple to make. I love the old time Christmas feel these Angels have, love the burlap and raggedy muslin look and feel of them.

This sweet little denim angel would really make a cute addition in a farmhouse or old fashioned themed Christmas decor.

Sweet little angel ornaments.

Just precious.  We all have bits and pieces of muslin laying around. Get a little creative with these, have fun and try something new.

While you are on this gal's blog, peruse around a little and enjoy her offerings. She has some fantastic photography skills, some wonderful sounding recipes and just have fun!

Day #6 Christmas and Holiday Challenge and Blog Writing also! Christmas Ornament Pattern

Day #6 of my Challenge!!!

Are these ornaments not the cutest! (Just click on the link above!)

I can literally dive into my own personal stash basket of scraps and be able to make a bunch of these ornaments up in no time at all!  The gals over at the Moda Bake Shop posted this pattern a while back and I'm glad I found this little treasure!

Just think - you could make these for ornaments for your own tree. Or give them as gifts to a couple that is newly married and might want a few keepsake type ornaments for their new Christmas Tree. Or - the other idea I had for these - Christmas Gift Tag hangers - You could easily make these ornaments as a gift also and use them as a Christmas Gift Tag by using a Pigma pen to write on the back of the ornament. For Example:

To: XYZ
From: Grammie with Love
2018

See - wouldn't that be cute!

Or - If you know of someone in your community that might need a little bit of a "pick me up" in their spirits this holiday season. Well, here ya go. Make up a few of these cute little ornaments.  Drop them down in a gift bag with a sweet little note of encouragement stuck in a Christmas Card and play Secret Santa and leave it hanging on their front door or in a special place they will be surprised to find a treasure awaiting them!  A co-worker - leave them a surprise on their desk.  Need a teacher's gift..... here ya go!  I could go on and on when I get on a roll....just ask my kids.

I'm off to spend my day sewing. I have a million pieces awaiting me at the sewing machine and my fingers are itching to be off this blasted computer and sitting at my sewing machine, with my puppies laying on their blanket next to me as I sew, the woodstove with a good fire burning in it, a pot of coffee and some soft country music playing in the background! I've typed my self-imposed goal of 3,000 words for today in the book I am writing and now the rest of the day is mine to enjoy!

Have an awesome day!

Day # 5 Burlap Stocking Tutorial

I am so excited about this little tutorial and pattern I found to share with you!  I love burlap. I love the vintage and old feel it adds to my Christmas decor.

I love the little ball trim added to the cuff of the stocking. I think homespun fabric would make a beautiful cuff fabric on these also & paired with the burlap fabric - a complete vintage, old-fashioned Christmas look!

The link I provided above will lead you directly to the instructions to make these clever stockings and the link to download the pattern sheets. She has a few other pages on her blog attached previously to this page that I had to dig through to get to the pattern page so you may want to backtrack a little if you feel like doing some reading and perusing.

Enjoy my friends!
