Today's Mission...

OK, my fascination with Dear Jane has to take a break today - but I will be packing a little of her up to go on my journey east soon!

Today I am playing around with a little of this:

Because as you can see in the line up below - tomorrow is my big day on the:

"Strip-Smart Quilts Book Blog Tour".

You may remember Kathy as "The Teachers Pet".  You can view her website here:

and her blog here:

Here is the list of all the fun blogs on this upcoming Blogging Book Tour.

Then I must move on to filling this for my 3 plus week adventure east:
I acquired this new piece of pretty luggage while at quilt market last month.  She's so cute!
From looking at this picture above, I'd say I should get busy replacing that ironing board cover on my big board too!  LOL - That thing is a mess!  Guess it's been used a lot!
Have a Happy Saturday!

Lady Dear Jane In The Making

Last night I attended the first club meeting for Dear Jane at The Quilt Merchant.  Oh dear Lord, what have I done to myself yet again.  I seem to have this un-ending habit of getting really involved and psyched about new projects.  I literally have a bazillion (ok maybe not that many - but their are a lot) projects either started or that I'm stash building for.  Good grief....

Now, I'm back to being addicted to this:

You see - I did start this quilt probably 5 or 6 years ago.  But now I've changed my mind on the background fabric.  Here's a glimpse of the blocks I've had in storage from the "Old Dear Jane In Progress":

But of course, nope - cannot continue on with these blocks and this theme as planned - nope - I now have it in my head to start over. Good grief.....

I absolutely could not get this Jane Stickle person out of my fuzzy head today.  I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off getting ready for 2 quilt shows which will take me away from home with my darling kids for over 3 weeks straight.  I'm cutting and folding fabric and thinking about

Lady Jane

I'm packing rubbermaid totes with fabrics and notions and again she's in my head.

I take my kids out to lunch and I see the Dear Jane Quilt imagine in my head as I try to eat my rather bland and boring salad.

I run to Barnes and Noble to look for a Journal to keep all my thoughts in while working on Lady Jane - again the Dear Jane thing.

I get back to work pricing fabric bundles and get this - I write Dear Jane on one of the fat quarter bundle tags.

Crud....

So I quit for the evening and did this...

I pulled fabric.  This is how I work - I just grab stacks off my shelf and I put them in piles, I'm a mad women when I start to pull fabrics.  I have no rhyme, nor reason when I pick fabrics for a scrappy style quilt. I just do it.  I lay them out, take a picture and see what I think.  I toss the fabric on my studio floor and stand way back and see how it looks.  I've completely lost my mind this evening.  I'm doing a Dear Jane quilt - all scrappy - background fabrics included.  And from the photo above, I think you'll agree - it works!  It's going to be awesome - just hope I can get it done in my lifetime.

I showed my husband the picture of the finished quilt in the book.  He loved it - said "That's a cool quilt".  "Looks like it will take a while to make".  I replied - yep.  He studies it and says " So, I'll probably be retired before it gets done (keep in mind - he's 44 years young) - I replied - yep and called him a smartie pants.

I also told him, If I ever get this quilt done - he would be required to build a glass case so that we could display it because there would be no one sleeping underneath this baby!

Here's a picture of me and the hubby in St. Louis a couple months ago:
Isn't he cute???  Just love my wind blown hair look!

I really started studying some of the blocks in this quilt - and bingo another cool idea popped into my head.  My partner in crime who will be making her own version of The Dear Jane -

is guilty for putting this idea in my head actually - Miss Pam Buda - the Queen Mum of the Make-Do craze!  I think I may just to purposely "make-do" on some of my blocks just because I can and I want too!

If you are not sure what a "Make-Do" is ---- well just click on the little link next and you can read all about it!

Here's a few close up's of some of the fabrics I've chosen so far - we all enjoy eye candy right???

Nice looking bunch of fabrics ????

Well, another really cool thing I found out about last night ---- The Quilt Merchant is cutting "Sweet Sixteenth" bundles of fabrics for this quilt and offering those up in Batiks, 30's repros, Kaffe and Civil War Repros - how tempting - we always could use more fabric! The Sweet Sixteenth bundles are Fat Sixteenths of fabric in cute tempting bundles.  A Fat Sixteenth is roughly 9" x 10 1/2" or so - about the size of a sheet of paper - just think of a fat quarter divide in fourths - 4 fat sixteenths equal a fat quarter etc....

They also have the Dear Jane Book:

The Dear Jane Rulers:

And I'm not 100% positive if they have the EQ Dear Jane program - but I bet they can get you one if you'd like!

If I've peaked your interest or given you a little nudge to get to work on your own Dear Jane....

give The Quilt Merchant a little jingle and tell Docia her adopted daughter made you call and tempted you to play with Dear Jane. Docia or her daughter in law - Miss Beth will get you all set up and on your Dear Jane journey in no time!

Now, I'm off to play a little tonight.  I'm having one of my "I just cannot focus on work" moments.  I've clocked over 70 hours of work this week alone, so it's time for this chick to go fondle some fabric - I'll get back to the grind tomorrow.

Enjoy your evening!

I'm doing a Dear Jane Quilt - Yippee!!

(disclaimer - I have no intention of rushing through this project.  I have no clue when I'll actually be able to start on it - and I'm sure I'm going to fall prey to being the last person in the club to get the quilt done. Darn - I'm not even sure if I can get even one block finished by the next club meeting.  I make no guarantees that I'll whip this quilt out over the next year (not gonna happen - I can tell you that right now!!).  I'm just along for the ride and I'm going to enjoy myself - finished quilt or not, I'm declaring this a "me" project - just because I can! So if you see me at a quilt show, at the quilt shop or chat with me on FaceBook and ask me how my Dear Jane's going - my reply will be "oh just fine - I'm enjoying the ride")

Blog Tour and Other Exciting Things.

Well my world has been a bit busy with more exciting things to come!

First and most importantly this little guy of mine:

Has grown into this:

I now officially have an 8th Grade Graduate - or maybe I should say (cringe) a Freshman in High School.

Yes, my darling first born little boy is going to high school this fall.  We attended the graduation ceremony for all the 516 eighth graders in his class last Friday evening.  Saturday we had a party for him and the rest is history.  Wow, a freshman in high school, time sure does fly!

In other news we have this fun event starting this coming Friday:

Above is my good friend Kathy Browns' new book called "Strip-Smart Quilts". You may remember Kathy as "The Teachers Pet".  You can view her website here:

A Little Bit Of My World...

While outside this morning watering my pretties in my garden, I took a few pictures to share with you!

Of course there is a quilt in the backyard decor today - this is an ebay find - a "stinky" one too!  I opened the box and the musty smell about knocked my socks off - outside it goes until it smells a bit better!  LOL

A bigger shot of the quilt "airing out".  You can see my daughters flowers that she planted in the pots on the deck railing!

Any suggestions for the above wheelbarrow?  It's in a nice shady spot for most of the day and I need to get some good shade flowers planted there in the next few days!

These crazy bushes shown above have over taken the side of my home - but they are so pretty when in bloom!  I need to cut these back this fall - big time!!!

Our garden stone above that the kids and I made a few years ago!  Love this!

Memorial Day Fabric Sale on our Website!

From now until midnight Monday May 30th, 2011 ----- all fabric yardage on our website will be 25% off.  This sale is as follows:  (please read this - it will only take a few minutes and will save a lot of hassles!)

****** no coupon code needed - if it's marked as on sale on our website - then it's on sale - if it's not marked - then it's not on sale.

*****fabric "on the bolt" only and there is a 1/2 yard minimum cut on all yardage. If you order less than a 1/2 yard we will not fill that portion of your order and will email you to let you know.  If there is less than a 1/2 yard left "in-stock" - go ahead and order what is remaining.

***** all coupon codes have been "turned off" during this sale and will not be affective or usable until after the sale.  If you happen to order other items that are not on sale along with "on-sale fabric" - leave the coupon code in the "comments" section in the shopping cart and we will adjust the total of your invoice prior to charging your credit card.

***** the sale begins now at this moment and is null and void on any previous orders or pre-orders from this point forward.

***** DO NOT place pre-order fabrics on the same order with items in stock.  During this sale we will not "hold" items until everything is in stock - if you "pre-order" items along with a sale item - expect an email from us - you will have to pay separate shipping!

****** this sale excludes all clubs, fabric bundles, previously listed sale fabrics (you know, the fabrics that are showing under the "Sale Fabric" category on our website currently, notions, patterns, books etc.  Basically - if it's not showing a sale price - then it's not on sale.

*************************

And speaking of clubs:

The Cotton Club

This club is selling out very quickly.  We already have 1/2 of the memberships filled!  You have many options for this club - so sign up today.

I saw the actual quilt and fabrics while at Quilt Market last week - you will not regret signing up for this club!

(Here's a little hint - if you want a really good deal on this quilt club - it's cheaper to order the whole kit at once and be done with it!)

Click on the links above or the photo of the quilt to go directly to The Cotton Club page on our website.

***************************

****Just a little update - Crossroads to Texas fabric is still "on the boat" and en route to America.  Blue Hill predicts we should see this fabric the beginning of June.

***** I have been getting a tremendous amount of emails regarding pre-ordering the following fabric lines that are all due to arrive in July. (let's just say for future reference - if the little pre-order button is not showing on our website - then it's not available for pre-order yet.)

Dear Jane II - now up for Pre-Order

Sweet Emilie - now up for Pre-Order

Cotton Club - now up for Pre-Order

Indigo

Sara's Stash (this one I am waiting until Blue Hill can assure me that their will be no hold ups on this fabric line - so do not expect this one to be listed right away!)

Judie's Nineteenth Century Backgrounds

Cocheco Mills III

Now - all these fabrics are due to arrive in July and no sooner.  July will be a very busy month for us.  We will be releasing these fabrics for pre-order soon - I have to get the images on the website, figure out the total costs on the bundles etc.  But it will be soon and definitely before we head out of town for the big NQA Quilt Show in Columbus Ohio in June!

**** A few things are changing in our neck of the woods.  We will only be receiving ONE fabric collection of each of the above listed fabric lines and no more.  So in other words - if you really want it - you better pre-order it - once it's gone, we will not be getting anymore.  We sold out of all Carolina by Jo Morton bundles the week before it arrived - so yes the fabric sells quickly

****Also - please read all messages on each of the fabric pages.  If you are pre-ordering fabric and you order things that are already in stock - your entire order will be held until all items are in stock (with the exception of this sale that is running right now- you will pay separate shipping for pre-ordered fabrics if ordered on the same order form as sale fabrics ----- please place separate orders!!!!!)

*****  Please remember - we are an Internet based business only and do not have a store front.  Please email us with any and all questions.  We are on the phone constant dealing with other things regarding our business and cannot answer every phone call that comes in - email - it's a beautiful thing.

*******

And finally - we have made the decision not to attend Houston Quilt Festival this fall.  My family and the time I spend with them is extremely important to me.  My son is starting high school this fall and my daughter will be moving into the middle school.  Many changes in their lives and I want to make sure I can devote more time to them and help with these school transitions.

Also - we just seem to keep hitting brick walls and coming upon obstacles with this show and one other one when trying to make arrangements for booth helpers, travel and travel expenses, hotel arrangements, vacation times etc.  So - my rule of thumb - if things become to difficult to manage - then it's time to do away with something in your life.  Life is way to short to be stressed over things.

All this and the fact that I have some really big projects in my future have made me realize that I am only one person doing the job of 20 people.  It's time to cut back and de-stress a little.

Amen to that!

Have a safe and Happy Memorial Day!!

(oh - and almost forgot to mention - we will be out of town camping this weekend for Memorial Day and my son's birthday.  We will not be available to respond to any emails or phone calls from this Friday through Memorial Day!)

Ahhhh Quilt Market!!!

We're back and re-energized after a fun, exhilerating, emotional and quick (it went by really fast!) Quilt Market!  This spring we visited Salt Lake City, Utah.  And yes - for those of you that "know" me - I survived the airplane ride - my nerves were frazzled a bit - but I made it there and back - safe and sound!

This Quilt Market I had the joy of meeting this gal:

This cute gal is Miss Sandy (the genius behind the creations of this blog! She's on the right and that's me on the left)  It's true - this super sweet chickie helped me out in my time of need when I switched over to blogger last year.  I'm forever grateful! Be sure to check her blog out!  Textile House

This Quilt Market I was "booth buddies" with the one and only - Pam Buda - the designer extraordinaire behind Heartspun Quilts!  Check her blog out at  Heartspun Quilts
(make sure you go and read her blog post from May 17th, 2011 - she has some excellent photos of her booth!)

Above is Miss Karen - Pam's booth helper, in the center is Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts and on the right is Docia Fuller Queen Mum - otherwise known as "owner" of The Quilt Merchant!  (I have to say, I'm a tad jealous of their new Vera Bradley's they acquired last weekend - I always miss out on the good stuff!  LOL)
You can check out Docia's blog here:  I Am The Quilt Merchant and the quilt shop website here:  The Quilt Merchant

And just a little FYI - I am sold out of all Carolina Fat Quarter, Eighth and Half Yard bundles and will not be ordering more of this fabric line.  We have very little of this collection left - but you can order it at The Quilt Merchant!!!  She stocked up really well!  Also - for those of you searching for the American Spirit fabric collection- they have it also!

I also had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Gail Pan of Gail Pan Designs - she came all the way from Australia!!!!  She's such a sweetheart!

Above is Gail Pan on the right and Miss Brenda Mercado of Pumpkin Patch Primitives on the left. Brenda has a wonderful website full of all kinds of Primitive goodies - check it out!  Her blog is also a delight and you can view that here:  Pumpkin Patch Primitives Blog

I also had the pleasure of meeting Betsy Chutchian the author of this book:

and the designer of this much anticipated fabric line:

Above is Crossroads To Texas - which by the way should be arriving on US soil soon  - if not already.  Unfortunately - I do not have a picture of Betsy -  I was so thrilled to meet her, I never stopped to think about taking a picture with her!  Thanks to Kathie of Inspired by Antique Quilts for "arranging" for Betsy to stop by our booth!

Unfortunately - I chose to leave me "good" camera at home and not lug the heavy thing around with me, (which means I missed out on taking pictures of all my other new friends I had the joy of meeting!) but I did have my trusty IPhone for the following photos of The Kansas City Star booth!

Oh Look!!!  It's my book!

Another shot of my book with a few of the models!

This is one of the new books by Kansas City Star - Confederates in the Cornfield - great book - just look at those quilts!

A few of the quilt models from the Home On The Plains book - another good one!

I was in such good company in the Kansas City Star booth - so much talent, packed nice and neatly into 2 booths - a pure feast for the eyes!

And I'm excited to say that I was able to do a little hand piecing while on the flight to Salt Lake City and in my hotel room!  Wanna know what I worked on  -- funny you should ask - I'll show you !

This is the feathered star quilt block that we use in our logo for our business.  If I'm not asked at least once a week and asked at every quilt show I've done for a pattern for this block, I'd by shocked.  Yes folks, I broke down and figured out the pattern in Electric Quilt - cut out all my shapes and I'm proud to say that I'm about 3/4 of the way done with the block!  Below is a snapshot I took on my phone so I could remember the layout of the block while I was away- not the best picture in the world - but you get the idea!

Now, don't go getting all excited - I still have to finish this beauty up and create a PDF file to share the pattern templates with you!  It's such an easy block to piece - promise!

And this gal is getting tired - I am still trying to play "catch up" on sleep from being at Quilt Market.  I need to head to bed, but I leave you with this quote that I read on another blog this morning.

"The door of opportunity won't open unless you do some pushing."
Anon.

I printed this quoted out in a nice bold print and framed it in my office.  This quote is so true......

Night, night everyone!
