We have a few more things up our sleeves for 2011, but now it's time to rest a bit and reflect on the many wonderful things this life has brought to us.  A bit of hand piecing and quilting is calling our name and that is how we will be spending our New Year's Eve - with family, quilting and watching our favorite movies. Thank you to everyone that has pre-ordered our book.  We are scanning in photos and creating kits to offer you to go along with the projects in the book.  As soon as everything is ready, we will let you have a peek at the projects!

Also, we welcome your comments and suggestions at any time. This time in particular I am asking a favor of you.  We are re-ordering several of Jo Morton's fabric lines that were introduced this past year and hopefully we will begin to see that fabric arriving at the end of January.  If there is any particular Jo line you are interested in, please be so kind to drop us an email at sewunique7@aol.com  or simply leave a comment!!  We are looking into ordering pieces from her older lines also!

Just a reminder that we will be closed December 31st, 2010 through January 2nd, 2011.  All orders received during this time will begin to ship on January 3rd, in the order they were received. I will be back tomorrow posting the winner here on our blog to the give away we talked about yesterday!

We wish you a very safe and Happy New Year.  May all your dreams, wishes and hopes come true.

One last Give Away for the year.

I had a bit of a funny moment today.  The mail arrive and a package came for me - I'm waiting on a fun new quilting book and I thought to myself, awesome my new books here - wow, that was fast!  I open the package and out comes a book I had no clue why I was receiving.  I really thought I was losing "it".  Here I am thinking I ordered this book and forgot I did it!  LOL

Long story short - it was sent to me by mistake. I have no desire to keep this book and the seller on Amazon.com has graciously told me to keep it.  So this will be the last give away for 2010.  It has some really neat purses and bag projects, but in all honesty - it's something I will probably never put to good use.

21 Sensational Patchwork Bags by Susan Briscoe

Let's keep this give away kind of fun too.  To be entered for the drawing (which by the way, I'll pull a name on New Year's Eve morning around 9 am central time!)  just leave me a comment telling me what your absolute most favorite, can't live without it quilting notion is.

Oh - and since the seller on Amazon was so quick in responding to my email and so kind in shipping me the book I ordered out so fast (like today - they answered my email and has shipped it within moments!!!)  and because they told me to just keep this one and enjoy it - I want to share their Amazon.com page with you!  They really have a lot of great books!  Here's the link:

And in other news, I've got a couple more new goodies to add to the website and then I'll be sending out the last newsletter for 2010.  It's really been a fun year and I hope for the same in 2011.

Don't forget, there are only a couple day's left of our annual year end Sale-A-Bration!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!
We hope you have the Merriest of Christmas's and the Happiest of New Years!

Quilter's Night Before
by Author Unknown

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
The only one sleeping was Quilter's dear spouse.
The Log Cabin stockings were almost completed,
"Just a few stitches left," our sweet quilter repeated,

"Then I can hang them and head off to finish
the pillows I'm making, fulfilling Mom's wish
For something 'quilty' to put on her couch",
as she pricked her poor finger, our quilter yelled, "Ouch!"
When from out in the kitchen there arose such a crashing,
she sprang from her work, and she dropped all her sashing.

Away to the doorway she flew like a plane,
wondering just what was happening and who she could blame.
When what to her wondering eyes should appear,
but Old Mrs Claus and her bag of quilt-gear....
With her elves bearing gifts, through the kitchen she came,
she directed and pointed and called them by name.

"Now Elna, now Pfaff, now Bernina and Viking,
the Andover and Blue Hill should be just to her liking.
To the sewing room - there, it's just back of the hall,
now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"

"My Dear," said The Claus (as she liked to be called),
"There really is no need to worry at all.
Your projects will all be completed this night,
I'm terribly sorry we gave you a fright.
Sit down. Have some tea. It's relaxing, you'll see.
My friends and I've come a long way to help Thee."

She thought she was dreaming, our Dear Quilter did,
In fact she quite feared that she'd near flipped her lid!
But the flash of the needles and twist of the thread
soon gave her to know she had nothing to dread.
They spoke no more words, but went straight to their sewing.
How the work went so quickly she had no way of knowing.

The stitches, how tiny! The corners, how straight!
This Claus-woman's talent was awfully great.
They finished the pillows, then started a quilt.
Before they all knew it, the whole thing was built!..

Now old Mrs. Claus, she knew quilters real well,
and she knew they'd need help on this night most of all
So she said to our quilter, "Just move over, dear,
I've brought my own needle. We'll get done, never fear.
I told dear old Santa about what quilters do.
How they plan all these projects but have other work too.

So he taught me his magic for doing things fast.
There, that pillow's done. Now this is the last."
They tidied their thread snips, and picked up the scraps
and chased our dear quilters six cats from their laps.

They left behind gingerbread (just to be nice)
and the whole house smelled sweetly of Christmas and spice.
As they scurried away with their thimbles still gleaming
dear Mrs. Claus paused, her cap ribbons streaming.

"Merry Christmas, my dear, now just have a ball!
Relax and enjoy. Happy Quilting to all!"

So Excited - Here is my new book cover image!!!

I simply cannot take the suspense of waiting for my new book to arrive.  I think of this little gem everyday.

Introducing:

Simply Charming: Small Scrap Quilts of Yesteryear
by: Me
Published by: Kansas City Star
Due to arrive: in February!
Pre-Orders: Starting soon - oh so soon!

20 scrappy style quilts - all which can be made from leftover charm squares or scraps

Here's a little info from he back cover:

Scraps—we all have those bits and pieces
left over from other quilting projects.
Put them to use in these little patchwork
quilts reminiscent of bygone days. You
don’t need a lot of fabric to create these
tiny treasures. Using her own overflowing
scrap bag, quilt designer Tara Lynn Darr
has created 20 classic projects inspired
by patterns of the past. From simple
one-patch and nine-patch blocks to
dazzling stars and pieced basket blocks,
she shows you how to make the most
of your leftovers. All the projects can be
made with 5” charm squares or smaller.
Tara also shares her time-tested tips for
working with small quilts. With these
projects and a little imagination, you’ll
whittle down that scrap stash in no time!

I am trying to calm my excitement down here a little bit!  I must get back to work!  I am trying to work up so little kits to go with the projects in the book that will be offered on our website!!!

In Heaven - I got to sew yesterday!

Yesterday's highlight around here - I actually got to sit and sew!

And to start off the fun - had to blow the dust off the sewing machine cover,  I had a temporary memory lapse - forgot how to thread my sewing machine.  Then a few minutes later - forgot where my thread cutter button was.  But all is well now and my memory has kicked into high gear again.  Thank goodness!

This is what I accomplished yesterday afternoon.

This will eventually be my border fabric if everything works out the way I have planned. I chose the colors for my quilt directly from this awesome stripe fabric!  It's from the Bread & Butter line by Kaye England for Wilmington Prints.

These 2 photos are the ones I am pulling inspiration from.  This quilt is for sale at www.amishcountrylanes.com  - a great website for sure!

This is the book I am using for the pattern.  The pattern is called Lonestar Log Cabin.  The book is Tried and True, Renewed published by Leisure Arts.

This is the actual quilt shown in the book.  Mine is going to be more similar to the one on the Amish Country Lanes website.  A few minor adjustments, but I think I can do it!

Now, I'm off to work on the 68 log cabin blocks this quilt needs!  Wish me luck!
