Wanting To Give Back...

I've been doing some thinking and a little cleaning in my sewing room the past few days.  If anyone is aware of a quilter on the east coast of the USA that was affected by those terrible storms just weeks ago and might have lost a part or all of their quilting equipment - would you be so kind as to share their information with me either in the comments section or privately email me at sewunique7@aol.com

It is the season for giving and I really am blessed to have an abundance of quilting supplies and I would really enjoy sharing with a quilter who might have lost everything and give them a little hope and perhaps a way to start over.

(please note - the above photos where borrowed from a google search and are not the actual items I will be sending)

Thank you!

JAM - Wool Crazy Blog Hop Day

Today is the day on our blog hop for my sweet friend JoAnn Mullaly.  She is such a joy to be around and I only get to see her once a year at Quilt Market! And wow - what a talented designer! She loves to work with wool and the projects she turns out are completely amazing!

Let's see what she has in store for us today!

New American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine

The new American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine arrived yesterday and it's a keeper!  This is the February 2013 issue.  Don't you just love that cover quilt! It was designed by Laura Boehnke and is called Way Around.

This one is called Sawtooth Surround and I'm drooling over it!  It's designed by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings Quilt Shop.

This is another drool worthy quilt designed by Jo Morton and is called s'mores.

This one I like the design - but the colors are just not me!  I can really see this one done up scrappy style using reproductions!  How fun would that be.  This one is called Mix Master and is designed by Victoria Findlay Wolfe of Bumble Beans Inc.

It's just that kind of day...

Not feeling like working on much of anything but my hexagon quilt.

Thank You and remembering......

I wanted to take a moment this evening to thank each and every one of you that visited my blog today for our Primitive Christmas Blog Hop! We are in for a ton of fun over the next few weeks with all the designers in the line up!

We arrived safely back home from our Thanksgiving vacation in the wee hours of the morning. I'm so thankful my husband drove all night long to get us back home.

Today I've done a bit of reminiscing. Today my Grandpa has been in heaven for five years. It seems like yesterday we said goodbye. I've looked through old photos, remembered his favorite little sayings, remembered his little "love pats" to my grandma. I remember his beautiful gardens, trips to the grocery store on those long and winding West Virginia roads in his old car. I remember Dr. Pepper in those long neck glass bottles he used to buy and his secret stash of cookies. I vividly remember him working on lawn mowers and such for people up and down the road after retiring from the lumber mill. I remember sitting with him peeling apples to can, I remember picking green beans and berries with him, I remember his slight limp from an accident long ago. I remember his wonderful stories and how much he enjoyed when we all came to visit.

My Grandpa is in the center of the photo above - he's getting ready to head off to war. My Grandma Lucille is on the right and my Great Great Grandpa Sanford is on the left.

Love you Grandpa and miss you!

A Primitive Christmas Blog Hop!!!!

Welcome to our special little day on the

A Primitive Christmas Blog Hop!!!!

Here I am - the 1st Blogger on this fun little hop and I just arrived back home at 6 am this morning from our Thanksgiving vacation in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia!   So I guess you know - I had this blog post all scheduled to go way ahead of time!  LOL

I'm so excited for this blog hop and all those yummy cookie recipes and fabulous Christmas Ornament patterns that will be posted over the next few weeks by my fellow blog hoppers and friends!!!!  12 yummy cookie recipes and 12 awesome Christmas ornament patterns will be shared with you!  Wow - I'm in good company! Thanks Ms. Stacy of Buttermilk Basin for organizing this little hop - you rock girl!

Here in our neck of the woods, Christmas time is such a fun time for us.  We have fun traditions here and there and one that is our favorite is the "annual" putting up the Christmas Tree the day after Thanksgiving!  Now, I'll admit, this year we  are slacking off a wee bit because we were out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday, but we will be jumping right in on the whole Christmas decorating thing this coming weekend!

And since a Christmas theme blog hop isn't much without gorgeous pictures of decorations - I'm sharing last years Christmas decorating photos which will pretty much be the same here this year!

Now if I can just keep pestering my husband just a little more - I bet the lights will be up on our house this weekend also!  (Our house looks "naked" without the Christmas lights compared to the neighbors!  LOL)

I love snowmen - so I toss a few of those here and there around the house for added holiday cheer!

Here is the pennyrug I designed for last years blog hop and it is still available as a free pattern download on our website - the link to that pattern is below the picture!

Here's your link to the PDF file for you to print and enjoy:

Snow Pennyrug Pattern

I'll get to decorating the big Christmas tree this weekend, but here's a picture of last years tree after Santa had arrived late at night on Christmas Eve!

but for now I need to go bake another batch of these:

Enjoy the recipe for these yummy cookies!  So easy to make!

Another fun holiday tradition (among many!) that we have is to venture off to Indiana on Christmas Eve to spend the afternoon and evening with my parents.  There we have a nice dinner, open presents and chit chat. It seems like every year when we leave there and start heading for home - it snows.  I wonder if this year will be any different! Here's a little picture of my kids 2  years ago opening their presents from Grammy and Pappa!

Are they not cute!

Christmas Day itself is always a treat having children at home!  They are growing up so quickly on us, but they know - you have to believe in Santa for Santa to come and leave you presents!  After our morning of fun opening Christmas gifts, I get hard to work in the kitchen, cooking up a huge meal for my family and my husbands family and anyone else that shows up.  We usually end up with a dozen or more, all gathered around the dinner table feasting on all the goodies!

Christmas is a time of family fun here in our home, see even our dog Harley gets in the Christmas spirit!

This year Bella - my dear sweet kitty has joined our family also!

She's such a character and loves having her photo taken!

And of course we cannot finish this blog post without gifting you your free Christmas Ornament pattern.  I hope you enjoy this pattern and have a blast stitching these cute little ornaments!

Just click on the title of the pattern above and it will lead you to the PDF file of the pattern!

But wait - here's another cute freebie ornament pattern just for you!

Again, just click on the title of the pattern above and it will lead you to the PDF file for the pattern!

I hope each of you a blessed and Happy Christmas season!

A Little Teaser of a post

Some of you know that I'm working on my next book for The Kansas City Star.  Here's a few teaser shots for ya!

The border I'm hand stitching on one of the little quilts.

My basket full of wool goodies I'm working from with one of the new projects peeking out from under the basket!

One  of the quilting motifs I chose for one other new quilt design!

Here is that quilting motif all done!  I love it!

 I love circles!!!

Another hand quilted border!  Love this design!

Another very easy hand quilted border design.

A simple flower - the entire quilt is so cute!

Gotta love hexies!!!!

And coming soon....
